Captain’s Column – Jun 2024

Dear Members,

I trust everyone had a splendid June. I am pleased to provide you with updates on our course renovation and care for our course.

Appointment of Golf Course Architect

Golfplan – Dale & Ramsey Golf Course Architecture has been selected for our course renovation project. Golfplan has extensive experience and credentials in designing world class golf courses across 30 countries, including The Club at Nine Bridges in South Korea’s Jeju Island, The Anvaya Cove Golf Resort in the Philippines, Chee Chan Golf Resort in Thailand and Singapore’s Serapong Course at Sentosa Golf Club and Seletar Country Club.

We are excited to partner Golfplan in our golf course rejuvenation. Their course designs had consistently ranked top in Korea, Thailand and Singapore. And they are the only golf course architect with 3 golf courses in Asia within Golf Digest Magazine’s “Top 100 In the World”.

Golfplan will review and propose design solutions for the few problematic holes in the back nine, weather proofing our bunkers and refreshing the whole golf course with sustainability and maintainability in mind.

As we firm up the design for our course, we endeavour to update you on each milestone of our renovation project.

Status of Maintenance Agent Change

As last updated, we had engaged TEHC on 03 Jun 2024 to provide interim maintenance services while working towards a long term maintenance model in the overall Course renovation plan. The TEHC team will provide maintenance services under the direction of our Course Superintendent, Mr Paramjit Singh. The Club has also recently recruited Mr Sharizuddin Mohd Saad as our Deputy Superintendent. This experienced team will take charge of our golf course maintenance to provide a good golfing experience for us.

You should be able to see the efforts in maintaining the course in the lead-up towards the Sembawang Open on 19 and 20 July. Speaking of our Sembawang Open, do join us for a day of golf and fun with substantive goodie bags, lucky draw prizes as well as Hole-In-One goodies. Your support is much appreciated, and we welcome you as long as slots are still available.

Care for Our Course

As the Club takes proactive steps to improve our course condition amidst the erratic weather patterns, I also seek members’ understanding to continually care for our course. To enhance the golfing experience for all, we kindly ask for members’ cooperation in refraining from buggy movement on soggy grounds, diligently repairing pitch marks and divots as well as raking the bunkers. In particular, on wet days, repairing the pitch marks on the greens would be key.

Also, you may have noticed the removal of sand containers from all tee boxes. This adjustment enables our maintenance team to conduct thorough repairs and improve tee box maintenance.

In conclusion, as we plan for the future of the course with the appointment of the golf course architect, the ongoing efforts of our maintenance team and the support from our members will have meaningful impact on our upcoming games. Together, our collective efforts will contribute to an enhanced golfing experience at SCC. Wishing everyone the very best in your golfing endeavours at SCC.

Warmest regards,

Wee Tiong, Club Captain
