Captain’s Column – December 2025

Season’s Greeting to all our Members!

As we approach the year-end festivities, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to you and your families. May this season bring joy, good health, and many enjoyable rounds of golf shared with loved ones.

Over the past few months, we have had the privilege of playing on our beautifully renovated Composite 9. Its excellent condition reflects the dedication, care, and pride of the Sembawang Country Club community. As we head into the new year, it is timely to highlight an important reminder to help preserve the quality and longevity of our course.

The 5 new holes as part of the Composite 9 are concurrently undergoing rectification works. We have been judicious and some areas have not been taken over – soil slippage and poor inter-locking of the grass patches especially in the rough. Certain areas have been marked out as No Play Zones either due to soil condition or water drainage. The contractor will rectify these and I urge for members’ patience as such defects are expected when new holes or courses are open for play. We are learning the right lessons and applying it to the remaining course renovation. In addition, as the fairways take more time to settle down, we will also defer the decision to allow buggies in, to a later date.

In line with the much anticipated launch of the new 9 holes course in Jan/Feb 2026, our buggy GPS system is also being refreshed to enhance the golfing experience for everyone, the updated system will be launched in Jan 26.

As responsible golfers and proud members of Sembawang Country Club, we each play a part in maintaining course standards. This includes the simple yet essential practices of:

  • Repairing divots on the fairways
  • Fixing pitch marks on the greens
  • Raking bunkers properly and observing general course care

The vast majority of our members already demonstrate exemplary etiquette. However, there have been instances—among members, non-members, and guests—where course care standards were not consistently observed. On a few occasions, I have encountered multiple un-repaired pitch marks and bunker footprints have been noted within a single round. These small oversights, when repeated, can significantly impact the playing experience for others.

I therefore encourage members to gently remind their flight mates, particularly guests, to repair divots and pitch marks. A courteous reminder goes a long way in upholding the standards we all value.

To safeguard the condition of our course, the marshal team will commence a more active enforcement from December 2025. This initiative is not intended to be punitive, but to reinforce good habits and protect the long-term quality of our newly renovated course.

Members’ cooperation and leadership are crucial in setting the right example. Golfers who fail to adhere to established standards will be subjected to disciplinary action. Our marshals are entrusted with enforcing playing standards, ensuring safety, and assisting golfers when needed. As they engage members and guests professionally, I am confident that they will be accorded the same courtesy and respect in return.

Ultimately, the condition of our course is a reflection of our collective standards. By taking small but meaningful actions each round, we ensure that Sembawang Country Club remains a club we are all proud to call home.

Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and commitment. Wishing all members a joyous festive season and an even better year of golf ahead.

Happy Holidays,

Kenneth Gn, Club Captain
